We stayed a night at Parador de Jaén on our road trip in southern Spain. The parador hotel is built like an extension to the Castle on a hilltop high above Jaén town about 3.5 hours from Madrid. Of course, the views are incredible. On one side, cliff faces and mountains, and on the other side, the wide stretches of olive groves for which Jaén is famous.
Our room faced the hills so we were able to watch them change in the light as the sun rose. The parador has banquet halls – we ate in one of them as hotel guests – and a swimming pool that looked like it will be a dream when it’s open in summer.
We toured the castle in the morning before leaving for Cordoba. The castle is small with a mix of ruins and preserved towers and plenty of information about its history under Moorish and Spanish control.
The photos below are firstly from the hotel section, and then when they start looking crumbly, the castle.
